Hayes and Hayes; Duo break own school records on day one of New Englands

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Hayes Watson (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Kristen Hayes (Menands, N.Y.) both broke their own school records and the men's distance medley relay set a school record to highlight an outstanding performance by the Bryant University track and field team on day one of the New England Championships Friday night in Boston, Mass.

Already the school record holder in their respective events, Watson and Hayes both smashed those records on Friday. In the pole vault, Watson finished fourth with a new record height of 4.65m, 10 centimeters higher than his previous mark. Hayes followed with another dominant performance in the 400, finishing third in the prelims with a time of 56.19, nearly a half second faster than her previous best time.

The Bulldogs capped off the historic day with another record-breaking performance in the men's DMR. The quartet of Milan Duka (Belgrade Serbia), Antonio Siracusa (Bridgewater, Mass.), Richard Landry (Holyoke, Mass.) and Thomas Mullally (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) finished with a time of 10:18.42, four seconds faster than the previous school record that was set in 2011-12. The record time also qualified them for IC4As next weekend. Duka ran the 1200 portion in 3:09.6, Siracusa ran the 400 in 52 seconds, Mullally posted a time of 1:58.7 in the 800 and Landry ran a 4:17 mile.
