Hayes continues historic career, part of two more school records Saturday at New Englands

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior Kristen Hayes (Menands, N.Y.) set another school record in the 400 and helped the 4x400 relay break an eight-year old school record as the Bryant University track and field team wrapped up competition at the New England Championships on Saturday.

A day after breaking her own school record in the prelims, Hayes broke the school record in the 400 again on Saturday. She ran a time of 56.19 on Friday and then bested that with a time of 56.17 on Saturday. Hayes finished fifth in the event.

Later in the day, Hayes helped the 4x400 relay team break a school record that had stood for eight years. Even more impressive, the quartet of Hayes, MiaLynne Park (Jewett City, Conn.), Rebecca Nunez (Greenwich, R.I.) and Kara Walsh (Waltham, Mass.) became the first 4x400 relay team in school history to post a sub-4:00.00 time, finishing with a new record time of 3:57.71.
