Hayes, DMR set school records at ECAC/IC4As

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University track and field Junior Kristen Hayes (Menands, N.Y.) broke her own school record for the fourth time this season and became the first runner in program history to qualify for the finals at the ECAC/IC4A championships this past weekend in Boston, Mass.

Wrapping up one of the most historic indoor seasons for an individual in school history, Hayes finished 10th in the 400m on Sunday with a time of 56.28. On Saturday, she became the first athlete to final, running a blistering 55.43 to break her own school record by nearly half a second.

The men's distance medley relay team also enjoyed a strong showing at the championships, breaking their own school record with a time of 10:09.73. After setting the record last weekend, Milan Duka (Belgrade, Serbia), Antonio Siracusa (Bridgewater, Mass.), Thomas Mullally (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) and Richard Landry (Holyoke, Mass.) demolished it in Boston this weekend, breaking the record by nine seconds. Duka ran the 1200 in 3:06, Siracusa ran the 400 in 50.8, Mullally ran the 800 in 1:58.1 and Landry closed out the relay with a time of 4:13.7 in the 1600.

Bryant's other runner at the championships was junior Annmarie Tuxbury (New Hartford, Conn.). Running in the 5000, Tuxbury finished 11th with a personal-best time of 17:14.26. It is eight seconds faster than her previous best and it is the second-fastest time in school history.
