Dempsey sets two school records Friday at Sorlien Invite

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Nicole Dempsey (Norwell, Mass.) set two school records and qualified for the New England Championships to highlight a strong performance by the Bryant University track and field team at the Sorlien Invitational on Friday at the University of Rhode Island.

School Records

Dempsey had one of the best meets of her career on Friday, setting a school record in the 60m dash and tying her own school record in the long jump. In the 60m dash, Dempsey became the first female in program history to run sub-8.00, finishing third with a time of 7.91. The time also qualified her for the New England Championships. She went on to finish third in the long jump as well, tying her own school record with a jump of 5.39m.

Top Performers

Sophomore MiaLynne Park (Jewett City, Conn.) posted a fourth-place finish in the 60m dash (8.09) and a sixth-place finish in the 200 (26.54).

Junior Emily McNeil (Shelton, Conn.) finished fifth in the 1000 with a time of 3:09.01.

Sophomore Elizabeth Willmonton (Rowley, Mass.) finished fourth in the mile with a time of 5:26.62.

Freshman Melissa Hurwitz (Newton, Mass.) finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 10.16m.

Junior Jonee Harrison (Dorchester, Mass.) finished second in the weight throw with a distance of 15.35m.

Sophomore Deion Raper (Brockton, Mass.) and junior Frankie Ray (Westport, Mass.) each earned seventh-place finishes on the day as Raper placed in the 200 (23.22) and Ray in the 400 (56.60). Raper also finished fourth in the 60m hurdles (8.92).

Junior Milan Duka (Belgrade, Serbia) finished second in the 800 with a time of 1:56.65. The time is the second fastest in school history.

Junior Richard Landry (Holyoke, Mass.) finished sixth in the 1000 with a time of 2:37.42.

Junior Hayes Watson (Glastonbury, Conn.) won the pole vault with a height of 4.50m. The height is the second best in school history.

Senior Adam Malone (Speonk, N.Y.) and sophomore Kehma Johnson (Milford, Mass.) finished 3-4 in the long jump. They posted jumps of 6.33m and 6.31m, respectively.
