Despite rain, Bulldogs shine in Black and Gold Invitational

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University track and field program excelled in its first home meet in five years on Saturday afternoon at the Bryant Track and Turf Complex.

The Bulldog men went 3-1 and the women went 2-2 at the Black and Gold Invitational. The men defeated Colgate, 107-38, Siena, 116-16, and Rhode Island, 79-76. The women defeated Siena, 124-19, and Colgate, 109-53.

Bryant enjoyed several first-place finishes on the afternoon. Nicole Dempsey (Norwell, Mass.) won the 100m dash with a time of 12.82. She also went on to finish third in the long jump (5.05m).

Kristen Hayes (Menands, N.Y.) won the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:03.40.

Melissa Lodge (Hopkinton, Mass.) won the 1500 with a time of 4:34.82. Emily McNeil (Shelton, Conn.) finished fourth in the event. McNeil also finished fifth in the 800.

Jonee Harrison (Dorchester, Mass.) won the hammer with a throw of 48.06m.

Kelsey Charette (Somers, Conn.) won the javelin with a throw of 35.65m.

Milan Duka (Belgrade, Serbia) won the 800 with a time of 1:55.97.

Deion Raper (Brockton, Mass.) won the 110m hurdles (15.44) and finished second in the 400m hurdles (57.42).

Nolan Ryan (Holden, Mass.) also finished first, winning the pole vault with a height of 3.95m.

MiaLynne Park (Jewett City, Conn.) finished second in the 400 (59.63).

The 4x100 relay team of Dempsey, Hayes, Park and Melissa Hurwitz (Newton, Mass.) finished second.

Benjamin Jackson (Enosburg Falls, Vit.) finished third in the discus, fourth in the javelin and fifth in the hammer.
