Malone, Hayes take home silver medals on day two of NEC Championships

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University track and field seniors Adam Malone (Speonk, N.Y.) and Kristen Hayes (Menands, N.Y.) each took home a silver medal to the highlight day two of the Northeast Conference Championships at Central Connecticut in New Britain, Conn.

The Bulldogs finished eighth in the men's standings and ninth in the women's standings. Central Connecticut took home the men's title and Sacred Heart claimed the women's title.

Malone, a silver medalist at the indoor championships, grabbed his second medal of the year on Sunday. He finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 14.21m. The two-time defending champ in the 400m hurdles, Hayes finished second this year with a time of 1:03.01.

Bryant also received strong performances in the men's and women's 1500. Milan Duka (Belgrade, Serbia) and Richard Landry (Holyoke, Mass.) finished 5-8 in the event with times of 3:58.60 and 4:00.59, respectively. Emily McNeil (Shelton, Conn.) and Melissa Lodge (Hopkinton, Mass.) finished 4-7 on the women's side, posting times of 4:51.54 and 4:53.09, respectively.  

Other top finishers included Kelsey Charette (Somers, Conn.), Alexandra Watts (Clinton, Conn.) and Erin Svensen (Medway, Mass.). Charette finished seventh in the javelin (37.32m), Watts finished eighth in the pole vault (3.00m) and Svensen finished sixth in the 5k (18:26.36).
