Harrison grabs silver, re-breaks school record on day one of NECs

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University track and field senior Jonee Harrison (Dorchester, Mass.) took home a silver medal and broke her own school record in the weight throw to highlight day one of the 2017 Northeast Conference Track & Field Championships on Friday.

Thanks to Harrison's silver medal, the Bulldog women scored eight points on day one and are in eighth place. The men did not score any points on day one. Robert Morris leads the women with 35.33 points while Sacred Heart leads in the men's with 46 points.

Having already broken the record several times this season, Harrison did it again on Friday, finishing second with a throw of 16.63m. It is her first-career medal at the NEC Championships.

Bryant also had several runners qualify for Saturday's finals. Melissa Lodge (Hopkinton, Mass.), Olivia Weiss (Newton, N.J.) and Emily McNeil (Shelton, Conn.) all qualified for the finals in the mile.

Emily Cluck (Johnson City, N.Y.) qualified for the finals of the 200m dash and just missed out on a finals appearance in the 60m dash, finishing 10th.

Jacklyn Sullivan (Plymouth, Mass.) continued Bryant's strong showing in the distance events by placing third in the preliminary heats of the 800, qualifying her for Saturday's final.

On the men's side, Milan Duka (Belgrade, Serbia), Richard Landry (Holyoke, Mass.) and Alexander Evans (Bow, N.H.) will all appear in finals on Saturday. Duka qualified in the 800, while Landry and Evans qualified in the mile. Landry posted the top time in the preliminary heats on Friday.
