Bulldogs set four school records Saturday at New Englands

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University track and field program enjoyed a successful day the New England Track & Field Championships on Saturday in Boston, setting four school records on the day.

The Bulldogs received school-record performances from Milan Duka (Belgrade, Serbia), Olivia Weiss (Newton, N.J.), Alexandra Watts (Clinton, Conn.) and the men's 4x800 relay team.

Duka set the school record in the 800, finishing with a time of 1:54.77. He broke the previous record that he had set last season. 

Weiss continued her outstanding rookie season by setting the school record in the 1000, finishing fourth with a time of 2:56.85. Her time was one one-hundredth of a second faster than the previous record set by Melissa Lodge (Hopkinton, Mass.) earlier this year.

Watts broke her own school record in the pole vault, posting a height of 3.25m. She had hit 3.20m several times during her career before finally surpassing the mark on Saturday.

Bryant's 4x800 relay team of Duka, Christopher Wrenn (Norton, Mass.), Richard Landry (Holyoke, Mass.) and Brian Salit (Seekonk, Mass.) smashed the school record and earned a seventh-place finish. The quartet finished with a time of 7:52.64, nearly four seconds faster than the previous record that was set in 2007.

The Black and Gold also received a pair of performances that rank in the top 10 in school history. Alec Binette (Glastonbury, Conn.) finished with a time of 50.82 in the 400m, which is good enough for ninth-place in school history. Matt McGovern (Long Beach, N.Y.) finished the 5000 with a time of 15:22.39, the eighth-best time in school history.
