Cluck, Weiss earn All-New England honors at NEICAAA Championships, Bulldogs run well at Wesleyan Invite

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University track & field sophomores Emily Cluck (Johnson City, N.Y.) and Olivia Weiss (Newton, N.J.) earned All-New England honors as the Bulldogs competed at the NEICAA Championships in Roxbury, Massachusetts, over the weekend. The team was also in full action at the Wesleyan Invitational in Middletown, Connecticut.

COACH SWITZER'S COMMENTS

"Coming off a big weekend of meets last weekend, and a ramped up week of training as we build for NECs, I am happy to see where the team was at," Bryant head track & field coach Mitchell Switzer said. "Chris, Alec, Breann, Emily, and Olivia really stood out this weekend. It can be tough performing at a high level on back-to-back weekends but through that all we got some great performances."

TOP PERFORMERS – NEICAAA CHAMPIONSHIPS (MEN)

  • Sophomore Christopher Wrenn (Norton, Mass.) ran a 1:57.35 in the 800-meter run, the best time by a Bryant runner in the event this season. The time moves him to fifth in the Bryant all-time record book.
  • Senior Ryan Poholek (North Attleboro, Mass.) ran the mile in 4:19.80 a week after breaking the program record in the event. The time ranks top-10 in Bryant history.
  • Freshman Jordan Dagrin (Providence, R.I.) also competed in the mile, finishing in 4:32.88.
  • Junior Evan Smith (Chester, Conn.) finished the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.21 seconds. Smith's time is the second-fastest by a Bulldog this season, behind his own personal-best time of 7.10.
  • Classmate Adam Winiarz (Norton, Mass.) completed the 200-meter run in 23.23.

TOP PERFORMERS – NEICAAA CHAMPIONSHIPS (WOMEN)

  • Cluck finished third overall in the 400-meter, finishing in a time of 56.84. The time was a half-second faster than the qualifying time she posted at the Terrier Invitational (57.35). She finished third in the event, the highest-ever by a Bryant runner at the New England Championships.
  • Weiss competed in the 1000-meter run and crossed the finish line with a time of 2:55.57 and qualified for the IC4A Championships. The time also set a program record.
  • Sophomore Jacklyn Sullivan (Plymouth, Mass.) ran the 800-meter in a time of 2:16.21.
  • Senior Melissa Lodge (Hopkinton, Mass.) finished the mile with a time of 5:04.61. The time secured her a 12th place finish in a field of 26 participants.

TOP PERFORMERS – WESLEYAN INVITATIONAL (MEN)

  • Winiarz ran a 7.53 in the 60-meter dash.
  • Freshman Joel Urizar (Fairfield, Conn.) finished with the best Bryant time in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line with a time of 24.69.
  • Junior Alec Binette (Glastonbury, Conn.) finished third overall in the 400-meter, finishing with a time of 52.22 seconds. Binette was just three-hundredths of a second behind the second-place finisher.
  • Freshman Ryan Dumont set a new personal-best with a time of 10 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles.
  • In the pole vault, freshman Jacob Borgia (Westborough, Mass.) cleared a height of 3.95 meters, tying his personal best height that he set at the Bates Invitational.

TOP PERFORMERS – WESLEYAN INVITATIONAL (WOMEN)

  • Junior Shirley Carrington (Dorchester, Mass.) competed in the 60-meter dash finals, finishing with a time of 8.30. She qualified with a time of 8.23.
  • Carrington also finished 18th of 51 participants in the 200-meter dash. She crossed the line in just 27.70 seconds.
  • In the long jump, Carrington had a distance of 4.88 meters. The distance topped her previous best of 4.82 meters and is sixth all-time in Bryant history.
  • Senior Sarah Lapham (Greenwich, N.Y.) finished fifth overall in the mile, finishing with a time of 5:38.15.
  • Sophomore Breann Campise (Tolland, Conn.) earned a third-place finish in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:25.57.
  • Junior Alexandra Watts (Clinton, Conn.) cleared a height of 3.20 meters in the pole vault, second place among all participants.
  • Freshman Courtney Kelleher's (Wrentham, Mass.) 10.75-meter throw in the shot put saw her finish ninth overall in the event.

MEET NOTES

  • Watts and Winiarz competed in both the NEICAAA Championships and Wesleyan Invitational over the weekend.
  • The women finished 17th overall at the NEICAAA Championships, accumulating 10 points. It was the highest result for the team in program history.

UP NEXT

The Bulldogs will next compete in the URI Coaches Invitational on Friday, Feb. 9 in the team's last regular-season meet before the Northeast Conference Championships the following week.
