NEC selects Lodge as Women's Track Athlete of the Week

SOMERSET, N.J. – Bryant University women's track & field senior Melissa Lodge (Hopkinton, Mass.) has been selected as Northeast Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 15, as announced Tuesday by the NEC office.

Lodge ran a school-record 16:34.36 in the 5,000m at the Ocean State Invitational Friday night, as the Bulldog senior posted an ECAC-qualifying time. The Massachusetts native bested her winning time from the March 31 Black & Gold Invitational by more than 29 seconds and took first in a distance event for the third-consecutive week, as she won the 1,500m at UMass a week ago.

Lodge's time in the 5,000m Friday places her 32nd on the NCAA East qualifying list heading into the latter half of April. The time was the best in the event by an NEC runner this spring.

Bryant returns to action this weekend with a pair of meets on the West Coast – the Mt. SAC Relays and Beach Invitational at Long Beach State – along with some athletes competing at the UMass Lowell Invitational.
