Bryant set to compete at UMass Invitational

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After a successful Black and Gold Invitational, the Bryant University outdoor track and field team heads to Amherst, Mass. for the UMass invitational on Saturday, April 6.

The Bulldogs will be competing against UMass, Vermont, Northeastern, WPI, Dartmouth, Harvard, Hartford, Brown and the URI women.

BULLDOGS NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • After taking home first place in the 400-meter at the Black and Gold Invitational, junior Emily Cluck (Johnson City, N.Y.) is set to compete in the 100 and 200-meter tomorrow. Cluck opened the outdoor season at Charleston Southern by breaking her personal record in the 200m with a time of 25.24. Ana Lucas (Wakefield, Mass.), Kathryn O'Connor (Windham, N.H.) and Nicole Xiarhos (Berlin, Conn.) will run alongside Cluck in the 100-meter, while Rebecca Reynolds and O'Connor will compete in the 200-meter.
  • Freshman Sarah Freeman (Merrimac, Mass.) is set to run in the 800 and 1,500-meter runs this weekend after breaking her PR in the 1500 at the Black and Gold Invitational with a time of 5:12.60. Fellow rookie, Julia Ayres (Collegeville, Pa.) will also compete in both of the events for the first time in her collegiate career.
  • Junior Breann Campise (Tolland, Conn.) entered Bryant's top-10 record book last weekend in Smithfield posting a time of 12:54.94 in the 3,000m steeplechase. Campise looks to better her time as she is set to compete in the steeplechase again in Amherst.
  • For field events, freshman Laura Rizik is set to compete in discus and hammer throw. Sophomore Courtney Kelleher (Wrentham, Mass.) will compete in the shotput event.
  • On the men's side, Alec Binette (Glastonbur, Conn.), Andrew Canale (Lincroft, N.J.), Brian Murray (Westford, Mass.) and Joel Urizar (Fairfield, Conn.) will all represent the Black and Gold in the 200-meter dash. Last weekend at the Black and Gold Invitational, Canale posted a second-place finish in the event with a PR of 48.87.  
  • After setting a program record in the 10,000m, sophomore Noah Tellier (North Kingstown, R.I.) will be competing in the 800 and 1,500-meter runs.
  • Sophomore Jacob Borgia (Westborough, Mass.) has proven to be successful in the pole vault event after finishing second last weekend in Smithfield by shattering her PR with 4.30m. Borgia will compete alongside Nicolas Curci.
  • Nick Alessandro (Pomfret Center, Conn.) broke his PR last weekend in javelin, throwing 54.69 meters. Alessandro will compete in javelin again this weekend.

UP NEXT
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday April 12 for day one of the Ocean State Invitational. The meet is a two-day invitational taking place in Providence, R.I.
