Bulldogs debut outdoor season at Coastal Carolina

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Bryant University men's and women's outdoor track and field team kicks off the outdoor season on Friday, March 13 at the Coastal Carolina Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Bulldogs are one of over 30 teams competing in South Carolina as the Black and Gold is entered in 20+ events across both the men and the women.

BULLDOGS NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • The Bulldogs kick off the meet on Friday with predominately field events. Bill Conlan (Seymour, Conn.), Thomas McNeil (Foxborough, Mass.) and Grant Dubiel (Canton, Ga.) kick off the meet in the hammer throw. Dubiel will make his outdoor debut in hammer as Friday marks the first time Dubiel will compete in the event in the Black and Gold.
  • Freshmen Anna Orticerio (Smithfield, R.I.), Julia Mechlinski (North Attleboro, Mass.), and Kasey Thomas (Easton, Pa.) will also make their hammer debuts on Friday. Sophomore Laura Rizik (Oradell, N.J.) is also set to compete in the event after throwing a PR last outdoor season in the NEC Championship of 38.96m.
  • After being the only Bulldog to ever bring home a medal in the women's indoor pole vault at the NEC Indoor Championship, Shileigh Martinez (North Kingstown, R.I.) returns to the event on Friday. Martinez posted a PR at the Championship meet of 3.35m.
  • Junior Nick Alessandro (Pomfret Center, Conn.) returns to the javelin throw. In Alessandro's last time out, he threw a personal best of 54.97m at the NEICAAA Championship.
  • The women's 4x800 is the lone running event that the Black and Gold is set to compete in on the first day of the meet. Emma Garrity (Wilmington, Mass.), Sarah Freeman (Merrimac, Mass.), Julia Ayres (Collegeville, Pa.), and Jacklyn Sullivan (Plymouth, Mass.) will represent the Bulldogs in the event.
  • Bryant's record holder in both shot put and discus, Chris Fasano (Lake Grove, N.Y.), is set to compete in both events on Saturday. Fasano set both records last season in 2019 with a mark of 16.15m in shot put 47.84m in discus.
  • Freshman Grace Yost (Wanaque, N.J.) broke Bryant's school record in the 60m hurdles in her rookie debut at the Brown Alden Invite to kick off the indoor season. The rookie is set to compete in both the 100m and 400m hurdles on Saturday. Freshman Kevin Aroke (Peabody, Mass.) will represent Bryant on the men's side in the 110m hurdles.
  • Senior Emily Cluck (Johnson City, N.Y.) opens her final outdoor season in the 200m. The last time Cluck competed in the event was last spring break at the CSU Spring Break Invitational when she posted a time of 25.24. Veronica Wallace (Sharon, Mass.) will accompany Cluck in the event.
