Bulldog Men Take Victory in Black and Gold Invitational

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- The Bryant track and field teams completed a successful weekend at the Black and Gold Invitational, with the men's team bringing home the Bulldogs' first ever overall win in their home meet. Seven event wins and five new program records paced the team in the two-day event.

The men scored 97 total points to outlast second-place Massachusetts (93.5 pts) and third-place Holy Cross (77 pts). John Bruder, Nolan Hickey, and the 4x800 relay teams all brought home event wins, while Mike Marshall, Jr. and Mason Jones posted school records in runner-up performances.

The women's team placed third overall with 101 points behind Rhode Island and UMass. Kasey Thomas, Jasmine Trott, Jasmine Hope, and Emma Garrity each took an event win.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bruder and Thomas kicked things off on Friday with a sweep of the shot put, both breaking their own school records in the process. Bruder won with a distance of 16.47 meters, while Thomas posted a 13.39 meter mark.

  • Trott dominated the 10k on Friday night, setting a new meet record of 36:07.48 on her way to victory. She lapped eight of the ten other competitors in the run, her first ever in the event.

  • Hope broke the school and meet records en route to a win in the 100 meters. She became the first runner in program history to finish the race in under 12 seconds, posting an 11.97.

  • Garrity won the 800 meters with a time of 2:13.39. Hickey completed the event sweep for Bryant, finishing at 1:53.89.

  • Aidan Hickey, Ryan Slaney, Justin Shiffrin, and Luke Silva combined on a 7:47.47 to claim the 4x800 relay, the Bulldogs' final win of the meet.

  • Marshall and Jones each broke their own school records in their respective events en route to runner-up results. Marshall posted a 1.99m in the high jump, while Jones cleared the 4.50 mark in the pole vault.

What's next: The Bulldogs are back in action this Saturday in Amherst for the UMass Invitational.
