Women's Track and Field finishes 2nd in Indoor Season Opener

PROVIDENCE,R.I.- The Bryant track and field teams kicked off their indoor season at the 37th Annual Alden Invitational at Brown University this past Saturday. The women's team placed second overall while the men finished fifth for the Black and Gold.

The Bulldogs would break two school records and secure 22 All-Time Top 10 finishes. Freshman Dasani Stewart would capture the women's triple jump record in her first collegiate meet after jumping 10.98m and graduate student Kasey Thomas would surpass her own mark in the women's shot put with a distance of 13.90m.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Graduate student Aliya Barrows won the women's 500m with a time of 1:16.52 in her first meet as a Bulldog. She now ranks 2nd all-time in school history for the event. Shelby Degrenier finished 2nd in the race with a time of 1:17.62 and is now 4th all-time.

  • The men's 4x400 team led by Ethan Ferraiola, Will Remkiewicz, Jaylin Rainford, and Vincent Sivo placed first with a time of 3:25.22

  • The women's 4x400 team also finished first. Runners Aliya Barrows, Ana Bertarelli, Lauren Haddad, and Savannah Pineda combined for a time of 3:58.59

  • Iyana Braswell (7.87), Agatha Nunez (7.96), and Christina Capozzi (7.99) all qualified for the finals in the women's 60m dash. They now rank 4th, 6th, and 8th all-time for the Bulldogs. 

  • Jasmine Hope placed 3rd in the long jump with a distance of 5.41m.

  • Kalen Knott finished 4th in the men's pole vault with a height of 4.15m.

  • Toby Ruffo placed 2nd in the men's 500 with a time of 1:06.93.

What's next: The Bulldog throwers will return to action on Wednesday, January 10th for the Bryant Indoor Throws Competition at Conaty Indoor. The rest of the team will return on Sunday, January 14th for the UMass Amherst Invitational at The Track at New Balance in Boston.
