Bulldogs make history as Men's and Women's Track and Field sweep Black and Gold Inviational

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- The Bryant track and field team had a historic performance this past weekend at the Black and Gold Invitational. The men's team won the meet for the second straight year after posting 142.5 points. The women's team would record 192.5 points and finish first at the meet for the first time in school history.

Bryant would win 10 events over the weekend. Jasmine Trott's performance in the women's 10,000 meters would be a highlight of the meet as she broke Eimear Black's 11 year old school record with a time of 35:56.67. Trott would also win the 5000m for the Bulldogs on Saturday.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Jasmine Hope and Christina Capozzi would place first and second in the women's 100m. Hope and Capozzi rank 1st and 6th all-time in the event for the Bulldogs.

  • Hope would also help set a new meet record in the women's 4x100m relay with Emma Green, Savannah Pineda, and Iyana Braswell (46.77).

  • Kasey Thomas would also set a new meet record in the women's shot put after throwing 14.58m.

  • Ryan Slaney would reset his school record in the men's 5000m as well as set a new meet record with a time of 14:14.53. He would beat his previous time by over 30 seconds.

  • Bryant would sweep the 4x400m relays.

  • Mike Marshall would win the men's high jump after clearing a height of 1.93m.

  • Dasani Stewart set a new school record in the women's triple jump after jumping 11.50m.

What's next: The Bulldogs will travel to UMass Amherst next week where they will compete in the UMass Amherst Invitational. The meet kicks off on Friday April 5th and concludes on Saturday the 6th.
