Women's Basketball Falls to #18 Stonehill 66-56
EASTON, MASS. - The Bryant University Women's Basketball team lost its third straight match to 18th-ranked Stonehill 66-56 Wednesday night at the Merkert Gym in Easton, Mass.
It was the third straight game that Bryant blew a ten-point halftime lead.
Turnovers doomed the Bulldogs as they turned the ball over 13 times in the second half. Lauren Rubenoff (New Hartford, Conn.) scored 14 of Bryant's 19 second-half points, finishing with 20 in the game.
Stonehill pulled away with in the final minutes, going on an 8-0 run, capitalizing on four straight Bulldog turnovers.
The Bulldogs led by as much as 18 in the first half, forcing the 18th ranked Skyhawks to burn three early time-outs.
Freshman Megan Methuen was the one thorn in Bryant's side in the first half as the freshman guard drained five first-half three pointers, including four straight to end the half.
Bryant led the host Skyhawks 37-27 at the half behind a 56% field-goal percentage (15 of 27 FGs).
But Stonehill came out flying in the second half, going on a 22-8 run to start the half and a 34-12 streak going back to the first half.
Methuen drained three more big threes early in the second half. The freshman finished with a career high 26 points, including eight buckets from behind the arc.
Joanna Skiba (Providence, RI) tallied just six points as she was 1-for-13 from the field. Kelsey O'Keefe (Warren, Mass.) also scored just six points and pulled down six board.
Stonehill outrebounded Bryant 47-33 in the game.
The Bulldogs (5-4, 3-4 NE-10) will return home Sunday and conclude their pre-Christmas schedule against Bridgeport in a non-conference game Sunday (2 p.m.).
