BULLDOGS LOOK FOR FIRST HOME WIN, HOST COLGATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON AT 2 P.M.

Dec. 10, 2010

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University women's basketball team looks to earn its first home win of the season tomorrow when they welcome the Raiders of Colgate to the Chace Athletic Center for a 2 p.m. matchup. The Bulldogs are coming off a 58-48 loss at Fairleigh Dickinson Thursday night in their Northeast Conference opener while the Raiders stand at 5-5 overall after winning their last three outings.

Game Notes

THE SERIES
Today's game will be the fourth meeting all-time between the two programs as the Bulldogs have met the Raiders every season since making the transition to Division I in 2008. Bryant holds a 3-0 advantage in the series with two wins coming on the road, including one neutral site victory at the Fordham Holiday Tournament in 2008. In last year's meeting at Colgate, then-junior Siamone Bennett scored 20 points and added seven rebounds to lead the Bulldogs past the Raiders, 82-74.

SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
Colgate is 5-5 on the season and has won its last three games with victories over Cornell, Loyola-Chicago and St. Francis (NY). The Raiders, members of the Patriot League, are averaging 64.7 points per game and allowing 62.4 ppg. Sophomore Jhazmine Lynch leads the squad with 14.3 points per game while senior Tayler Wejnert is close behind with 13.0 ppg. Senior Krista Moser is the team's top rebounder with 8.0 boards per contest.

BRYANT LAST TIME OUT
Sophomore Danielle Douglas netted a career-high 19 points, including 16 in the second half, but it was not enough to keep up with Fairleigh Dickinson as the Bryant University women's basketball team fell, 58-48, Thursday night in its Northeast Conference opener at Stratis Arena.

Facing a 31-20 deficit at halftime, the Bulldogs opened the second stanza with a 14-4 run to tie the game but FDU responded with seven straight points, building a large enough lead to hold on for the victory.     The 19-point performance marked the third double-digit effort in as many games for Douglas as the sophomore shot 7-for-16 from the floor. Senior Siamone Bennett and junior Brittany Stahura grabbed 12 and 11 boards, respectively.

Mariyah Laury scored 18 points for the Knights while teammate Esther Wallace blocked seven shots as FDU shot 31 percent from the field.

COLGATE LAST TIME OUT
The Colgate women's basketball team extended its winning streak to three on Sunday afternoon when it defeated St. Francis (N.Y.) 69 -51 on Cotterell Court. Senior Tayler Wejnert led the team with a game-high 21 points and seven rebounds while junior Tricia Oakes contributed 12 points for the Raiders. Senior Krista Moser led the team in rebounds, collecting a game-high 11. Colgate had a 47.4 field goal percentage and was 6-of-10 from beyond the arc.

BRYANT vs. THE PATRIOT LEAGUE
The Bulldogs are currently 4-6 against members of the patriot League since joining the Division I ranks in 2008. Three of those win have come against Colgate while the other victory was over Lafayette last season. Having already played Lafayette this year, the Bulldogs have two more matchups against Patriot League teams after today when they play Holy Cross Dec. 19 and Army Jan. 3.

TEACH ME HOW TO DOUG-LAS
After averaging 14.5 points per game at the Air Force Classic last weekend, Danielle Douglas has shined as of late and she continued her impressive run with a career-high 19 points at FDU. The sophomore also added five steals and shot 7-for-16 from the floor and 5-for-7 at the free throw line. The 19-point performance marked her fourth double-digit effort in as many games and her 11.8 points per game is No. 10 in the NEC scoring ranks.

CRASHING THE BOARDS
With 358 total boards this season, the Bulldogs boast the best rebounding numbers in the Northeast Conference. The team ranks first in the NEC with 44.8 rebounds per game and 18.75 offensive rebounds per game. Individually, Siamone Bennett is the No. 2 rebounder in the conference with 8.5 boards per game, just behind Long Island's Ashley Palmer (9.4).
