Whittington named NEC Co-Player of the Week

WHITTINGTON TABBED AS NORTHEAST CONFERENCE CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Behind her 22.5 points and 6 assists per game over the weekend, senior guard Katie Whittington (Twinsburg, Ohio) earned her first career Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Co-Player of the Week award, announced the conference Tuesday.

Whittington put up 24 points and a half dozen assists Saturday afternoon as part of the Bulldogs 79-54 victory over Saint Francis University, only to follow up that performance with another 20 point outing and six more helpers in a win over Robert Morris Monday evening. Even more impressive was Whittington calm demeanor during crunch time against the Colonials as the senior guard knocked down the game-winning shot with just 13 seconds left in overtime to send Bryant to the NEC Tournament for the first time in school history.

Whittington and the Bulldogs will have their third and final crack at top-seeded Quinnipiac Sunday afternoon (2 p.m.) when they head to Hamden, Conn., for the NEC Quarterfinals.
