JUNIOR NAANA ANKOMA-MENSA NAMED TO SECOND TEAM ALL-NORTHEAST CONFERENCE

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Just days after helping lead the Bryant University women's basketball to its first ever postseason appearance as a Division I program, junior forward Naana Ankoma-Mensa (Brampton, Ont.) was named to the All-Northeast Conference second team, announced Thursday.

The first All-NEC selection for the Bulldogs since the 2009-10 season, Ankoma-Mensa has developed into one of the premier post players in the Northeast Conference. Averaging career-highs in points (12.9), rebounds (13.0) and minutes played (35.6), the junior forward put together one of the best seasons in Bryant women's basketball history since joining the Division I ranks in 2008.

Ankoma-Mensa recorded 18 double-doubles, which ranks 10th in the country, four 20+ rebound games, four 20+ point games, and two 20+ point/20+ rebound games, including a Bryant record 22 rebound game at Saint Francis U. on January 5. The junior's 13 rpg ranked fourth in the country among Division I women's basketball players and she needs just 140 points and 207 rebounds to join the 1,000-point/1,000-rebound club.

Ankoma-Mensa and the #8 Bulldogs will open their first-ever NEC Tournament at #1 Quinnipiac, Sunday at 2 p.m.
