Bryant falls to SFU on Senior Night

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Kathleen Everson (Farmingville, N.Y.) scored six points and grabbed a career-high seven rebounds, but the Bryant University women's basketball team fell to the Saint Francis University Red Flash, 94-78, on Monday night at the Chace Athletic Center in Smithfield.

KEY MOMENTS

  • SFU's Maya Wynn knocked down a 3-pointer with 6:30 remaining in the second quarter to extend the Red Flash lead to six. Bryant would not get closer than the six-point margin the rest of the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The game started off with fast-paced offenses from both sides, resulting in a 25-21 lead from SFU after the first quarter. Sophomore Masey Zegarowski (Hamilton, Mass.) scored six points to lead the Bulldogs in the frame.
  • The Red Flash managed to create some space in the second quarter, outscoring Bryant 24-14 and took a 50-35 lead into the half. Everson scored four points in the quarter.
  • Bryant hung with SFU in the third, but the Red Flash managed to outscore the Bulldogs by five in the quarter and took a 74-54 lead into the final frame.
  • The Bulldogs won the final quarter, 24-20. Zegarowski scored 10 points in the quarter and classmate Sydney Holloway (Morgantown, W.Va.) chipped in six of her 16 total points in the final frame.

STATS

  • Holloway ended the game with her 13th double-double of the season. She finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Black and Gold.
  • Zegarowski finished with a career-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor. She was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
  • Junior Kierra Palmer (Aberdeen, Md.) recorded her first double-double of the season and had a new season-high in assists. Palmer finished with 13 points and 10 assists against the Red Flash.
  • Freshman Hannah Scanlan (Rumson, N.J.) finished the game with 10 points. She was 5-of-7 from the floor and had a blocked shot.

GAME NOTES

  • The Bulldogs were 18-of-20 from the free throw line in the game, good for 90 percent. It was the team's best percentage from the line this season. Bryant shot 83.8 percent from the line versus Wagner on Dec. 29.
  • The Bulldogs' had four scorers in double-figures, their second-most in a game this season. Five Bryant players achieved the feat versus New Hampshire on Nov. 21.
  • Bryant honored Everson before the game, celebrating the senior's career with the Black and Gold. The Empire State native played her last game inside the Chace Athletic Center on Monday.

The Bulldogs head to New York on Friday to begin the team's final regular-season road trip of the year. Bryant will take on LIU Brooklyn on Friday at 7 p.m. inside the Blackbirds' Steinberg Wellness Center.
