Bryant journeys to LIU Brooklyn for Friday night showdown

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Bryant University women's basketball team heads to Brooklyn for its last regular-season road trip of the year. The Bulldogs start the trip off when they play LIU Brooklyn on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Weinberg Wellness Center on the campus of LIU.

SCOUTING THE BLACKBIRDS
LIU Brooklyn heads into Friday's game with a 10-17 overall record with a 6-10 mark in Northeast Conference play. The Blackbirds are battling are for a playoff spot and are currently tied for seventh in the league standings.

LIU is led offensively by Denisha Petty-Evans, who is averaging 15.1 points per game this season. DeAnglique Waithe has posted averages of 12.0 points and 8.7 rebounds this year.

LIU is coached by Stephanie Del Preore has led LIU Brooklyn to a 25-61 record since taking over the program.

SERIES HISTORY vs. LIU BROOKLYN
Bryant boasts a 13-3 record all-time over LIU Brooklyn. The Bulldogs have won the last 11 games aginast the Blackbirds, including a 19-point victory this season on Jan. 20.

NOTHING CAN STOP ME, I'M HOLLOWAY UP
In just her sophomore season, Sydney Holloway has been one of the premier players in the conference. The Morgantown, West Virginia, native is currently third in the conference in scoring (17.5 ppg),  first in rebounding (10.3 rpg) and 13th in blocks (0.7 bpg). She set a career-high in scoring and rebounding on Feb. 3, scoring 29 points and grabbing 22 rebounds versus Fairleigh Dickinson.

AY NAY NAY
After a breakout season in 2016-17, Naomi Ashley has been a force for the Bryant Bulldogs through the early stages of the season. Ash- ley was a rebound shy of a double-double against Boston College, going for 12 points and nine rebounds. At Holy Cross, the red-shirt junior had 9 points, 12 rebounds and 9 steals against the Crusaders. Ashley has posted averages of 9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 2.7 assists as a redshirt junior, all career bests.

SCANNING THE RECORD BOOK
Freshman Hannah Scanlan (Rumson, N.J.) scored 27 points in the Northeast Conference opener vs. Wagner. The 27 points were the most-ever by a freshman in the program's Division I era.

WOMAN OF STEAL
In a two-point overtime defeat at Holy Cross, Naomi Ashley set a Bryant Division I program record for steals in a game with nine. She bested the previous best of eight set by Danielle Douglas in the 2010-2011 season. The program record belongs to Beth Connealy (now Wandyes), who had 10 in a game versus Springfield in 1995. Ashley had another big theft game vs. Rhode Island, coming away with six steals vs. the Rams in the first round of the Ocean State Tip-Off Tournament. She collected her 100th career steal in the NEC opener vs. Wagner on Dec. 29.

I'M FEELIN' 22
Sophomore Sydney Holloway inserted herself in the Bryant record book on Feb. 3, tying the Bryant program record for rebounds in a game with 22. It had been achieved just twice before, both times by Naana Ankoma-Mensa.

DON'T MIND IF I DO
Holloway also ranks 6th nationally in free throws attempted and 12th in free throws made. The sophomore averages 8.3 trips to the line per game.

BJELKO BUSTS OUT
Freshman Brooke Bjelko has recorded a pair of double-doubles on the season. Her first came against Mount St. Mary's on New Year's Eve when she scored 12 points and grabbed 14 rebounds against the Mountaineers. She had another versus Robert Morris on Feb. 24, scoring 12 points again and coming away with 11 rebounds.
SCANLAN DOWN LOW
Freshman Hannah Scanlan has posted averages of 8.2 points and 5.9 rebounds for the Bulldogs in her first collegiate season. In NEC play, Scanlan has been dominant, averaging 10.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.1 blocks, and 0.9 steals per game. For her play, she was named NEC Rookie of the Week on two-straight weeks.

VENTI IS TWENTY
Sydney Holloway recorder her 10th game with at least 20 points on Feb. 24 against Robert Morris. She has eclipsed the 20-point mark in three of the team's last four games.

EVERSON NAMED CAPTAIN
Bryant senior Kathleen Everson (Farmingville, N.Y.) was named a captain ahead of the 2017-18 season by head coach Mary Burke. Everson has set new career highs in points on three occasions. Against St. Francis Brooklyn, Everson scored a career-best 14 points.

BRYANT ADDS TWO
Bryant University women's basketball added two future Bulldogs during the early signing period, receiving National Letters of Intent from Trinity Bravo (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Alexandra Hart (Saco, Maine).
