Holloway, Scanlan take home NEC laurels

LORETTO, Pa. – Bryant University sophomore Sydney Holloway (Morgantown, W.Va.) was named First Team All-Northeast Conference and freshman Hannah Scanlan (Rumson, N.J.) took home All-Rookie honors, the league announced on Wednesday.

Holloway posted averages of 17.4 points and 10.5 rebounds per game over the regular season, good for third and first in the conference, respectively. She finished the season on a six-game tear in which she averaged 19 points and 13.3 rebounds for the Bulldogs. In a Feb. 3 game against Fairleigh Dickinson, Holloway came away with a pair of career highs with 29 points and 22 boards, tying Naana Ankoma-Mensa's school rebounding record. On Feb. 21, the West Virginia native was named the conference's Player of the Week after posting averages of 22 points, 14.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game in a pair of Bulldog victories.

Scanlan finished the season averaging 8.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, while also being a defensive presence for the Bulldogs. The freshman blocked 1.1 shots per game in conference play and had two games of three swats, one versus Central Connecticut on Jan. 6 and the other at Wagner on Feb. 19. Scanlan received two-consecutive Rookie of the Week laurels from the conference this season.

This season marks the fourth-straight year in which a Bulldog has been named First Team All-Northeast Conference. It also marks the fourth-straight season in which a Bryant player was named All-Rookie. Holloway was named to the conference's All-Rookie team last season.

Bryant takes on Sacred Heart at 8 p.m. on March 7 as the Bulldogs and Pioneers battle in the Northeast Conference semifinal in Loretto, Pennsylvania.
