Bryant falls to FDU in quarterfinals

HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Bryant University women's basketball team concluded the 2019-20 season in the quarterfinal round of the Northeast Conference postseason tournament at Fairleigh Dickinson, 57-43.

Senior Sydney Holloway (Morgantown, W.Va.) tallied her 12th double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Brooke Bjelko (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) matched Holloway with 10 points.

KEY MOMENT

  • The Knights dominated in the fourth quarter and exploded on a 13-2 run to grow to their biggest lead of the game of 16 points. FDU closed out the game with a 14-point cushion, 57-43.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams were neck and neck to start the game until Taty LaFrance Boyce (Norwich, Conn.) kick-started a 6-0 run to set Bryant apart at the end of the first frame, 14-12.
  • Fairleigh Dickinson came out strong to start the second quarter as the Knights took off on a 5-0 scoring run until four-straight free throws from Holloway and Boyce brought the advantage back to the Black and Gold.
  • The free throws fueled an 8-0 run capped off by a pair of buckets from Bjelko, 22-17, with 6:23 to go. However, the Knights fought their way back and ended the first half with a three-point advantage, 29-26.
  • No runs were gathered from either team in the third quarter as both teams went nearly basket for basket. A pair of free throws at the end of the third frame gave the Knights a five-point cushion heading into the final quarter, 39-34.
  • Halfway through the fourth quarter, the Knights took off on a 13-2 run to end the game.
  • FDU held Bryant to just nine points in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Black and Gold, 18-9.

STATS

  • Holloway led with the final double-double of her career with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Bjelko matched Holloway with 10 points.
  • Bryant finished the game with a 30.2 field goal percentage of 16-of-53 shooting.
  • The Bulldogs outrebounded the Knights, 37-33.

  • Holloway finished the season with 12 double-doubles and 48 for her career.
  • Bryant remains as the all-time series leader against FDU, 16-7, and 7-5 in Hackensack.
