Jallow ties career-high in loss to Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, CONN. - Fatou Jallow of the Bryant Univeristy women's basketball team tied her career-high with 19 points in the 80-61 road loss to Sacred Heart on New Year's Eve.

Brooke Bjelko and Alana Perkins also reached double figures in today's matchup. Bjelko scored 13 and had six rebounds, Perkins tallied 10 points. All three Bulldogs reached double figures for the second consecutive game.

  • The Pioneers shot 73% from deep in the second half and outscored the Bulldogs 51-34.

 How it Happened

  • SHU got off to a fast start going on a 9-2 run in the first five minutes. A corner triple from Jallow broke the run and led to the first quarter media timeout (9-5). Bryant outscored the Pioneers 9-7 for the remainder of the quarter, including back-to-back three-pointers from Nicole Gallagher and Marta Neira Martinez. This resulted in a two-point deficit for the Bulldogs (16-14).
  • The second quarter was a back-and-forth affair. Both teams scored 13 points resulting in a 29-27 lead for the Pioneers at the half. Jallow scored eight in the quarter, including six points off of steals. Matinez hit her second three of the game, and Gallagher added a lay-in.
  • In the third quarter, the Pioneers sank three triples and two layups compared to Bryant's one three-pointer and a layup from Perkins and Bjelko. This resulted in a 41-30 lead for SHU heading into the media timeout.
  • The remainder of the quarter was contested as SHU earned a slight 17-11 edge (58-42). Jallow tallied five, Martinez registered three, and Shannon O'Connor posted two in the reaming seven minutes.
  • The final period was closely contested, SHU outscored Bryant 13-3 in the first four minutes, but the Bulldogs fought back ending the game on a 16-9 run. Bjelko scored nine, Perkins had four, Jallow posted three, Golfe=den had two, and Martinez recorded one.
