Bryant falls to Stonehill at home on Sunday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's basketball team fell to Stonehill on Sunday at the Chace Athletic Center by a score of 81-74.

Mariona Planes Fortuny scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Nicole Gallagher tallied 16 points and dropped 11 in the first half. Kemari Reynolds registered a career-high 10 points and went 4-4 from the charity stripe.

How it Happened

  • It was an offensive struggle to start the game as the Skyhawks earned a slight 5-4 edge at the first-quarter media timeout. Fortuny and Gallagher recorded two points.
  • The Skyhawks finished the quarter outscoring Bryant 10-9, earning a 15-13 lead. Gallagher tallied five, and Fortuny and Reynolds posted two points.
  • Both teams picked it up on the offensive end, scoring 12 in the first six minutes of the second period (27-25). Alana Perkins and Dana Kiefer drilled three-pointers, Blanca Chasco recorded four, and Gallagher registered two.
  • The Black and Gold continued to click offensively, scoring 13 points compared to Stonehills 10, resulting in a 38-35 halftime lead. Gallagher had 11 points in the first half.
  • The Skyhawks outdueled Bryant 15-12 in the first seven minutes of the second half, which tied the game at 50.
  • The Bulldogs battled back and closed the third quarter on an 8-2 run, which was capped off by a Reynolds steal and finish, and a Lucie Castagne transition corner three in front of the Black and Gold's bench (58-52).
  • Stonehill went on a 9-3 scoring run, giving the Skyhawks a 63-62 lead heading into the fourth quarter media timeout.
  • Fortuny responded with a turnaround jumper in the paint to regain the lead (64-63). The Skyhawks then held the Bulldogs scoreless and tallied seven to earn a 70-64 lead with 3:45 remaining.
  • Stonehill finished the game on an 11-10 run, resulting in an 81-74 defeat for Bryant.
