Gallagher records dbl-dbl in home win against NJIT

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Nicole Gallagher recorded 16 points and 13 rebounds in the Bryant University women's basketball team's 65-62 home victory on senior night against NJIT on Wednesday.

Alana Perkins went 5-8 from deep for 15 points, Marta Neira Martinez tallied 12 points, Kemari Reynolds registered 12 points, and Mariona Planes Fortuny posted ten points and seven boards.

  • With six seconds remaining in the game, Gallagher sealed the victory on a clutch steal off of the NJIt inbounds play.

How it Happened

  • The Bulldogs came out on fire, going on a 13-6 run in the first five minutes of the game. The Black and Gold made three consecutive from deep courtesy of Martinez (1) and Gallagher with two. Gallagher and Martinez also made a free throw, and Fortuny recorded her first bucket of the contest.
  • Bryant finished the first quarter, recording a 4-3 advantage (17-9). Martinez scored her sixth point of the night, and Reynolds posted two on a layup.
  • The Black and Gold stormed to a 10-0 run at the sixth-minute mark of the second quarter (27-9). Perkins nailed two from deep, Martinez scored inside, and Gallagher converted a fastbreak layup on the run.
  • NJIT ended the half on a 12-3 run, making the score 30-21 in favor of the Bulldogs at halftime. 
  • The third quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with the Black and Gold earning a slight 17-16 edge (47-37). Perkins and Gallagher hit from beyond the arc, Martinez got a strong and-one to fall, and Fortuny tallied seven.
  • Perkins scored a three off a Gallagher steal, making the score 54-45 with six minutes remaining in the game. The Highlanders then responded with a 12-7 run, cutting the Bulldog lead to four (61-57) at the 1:19 mark of the fourth.
  • Reynolds went 3-4 from the line, and NJIT countered with a three-pointer with 12 seconds left (64-62).
  • The Black and Gold then missed both at the line giving the Highlanders possession down two (64-62). 
  • Then on the inbounds pass, Gallagher jumped the pass, forcing NJIT to foul en route to a 65-62 Bulldog victory.

  • Bryant shot 36.8% from the field, 56.3% from deep, and 51.9% from the free-throw line.
