Fortuny posts 24 and Mancini's clutch 3 lifts Bryant over UNH

DURHAM, N.H. – The Bryant University women's basketball team defeated UNH 71-68 on the road.

Mariona Planes Fortuny tallied 24 points, shooting 70% from the field (7-10) and 80% from the line (8-10) and making two three-pointers.

Mia Mancini posted 17 points and hit the clutch three-pointer with 54 seconds left to give the Bulldogs the lead.

Kemari Reynolds registered 14 points, tying her career-high of three mad triples, and Nia Scott recorded 10 points and four boards.

How it Happened

  • The Bulldogs began the first five minutes of the game on an 8-3 run, where Reynolds hit a three, Nia Scott got a bucket, and Fortuny tallied two.
  • The Black and Gold scored seven more, and UNH posted five, giving the Bulldogs a 15-8 advantage with 3:15 remaining in the quarter.
  • UNH would go on a 7-0 run to tie it before Fortuny beat the buzzer on a scoop layup, making the score 17-15 advantage Bryant at the end of the first.
  • Mancini hit two early free throws, and then the Bulldogs caught fire from deep, making three in a row courtesy of Mancini, Fortuny, and Reynolds while holding the Wildcats to three points (28-18), two minutes into the second quarter.
  • The Black and Gold then went on a 6-0 run in the next five minutes (34-18).
  • UNH countered with a 9-0 run off of Bryant turnovers, cutting the lead to seven (34-37) with two minutes remaining in the half.
  • The Bulldogs fought back, holding UNH scoreless and tallying five, including a Silvia Gonzalez three as the clock expired (39-27).

  • UNH responded with a 10-2 run, closing the gap to four points with six minutes remaining (57-53).
  • Fortuny would get fouled on the next possession and hit both at the line to bring the lead to six (59-53).
  • The Wildcats then converted a layup, but Fortuny was again fouled and converted both at the line (61-55).
  • UNH hit a three-pointer on the following play at the 4:16 mark (61-58).
  • The Bulldogs went scoreless for the next minute, and the Wildcats cut the lead to one on two free throws (61-60), but Reynolds responded with a hard take to the basket, where she was fouled and hit one at the line (62-60).
  • Then UNH was at the line on the next play and tied the contest at 62 with 2:15 left.
  • Scott, off of a missed jumper, fought for the board, and scored the basket, regaining the Bullodg lead (64-62). UNH countered with a layup of their own (64-64).
  • After a timeout, Martina Boba from the wing found Mancini for a three-point, giving Bryant a lead with 35 ticks left (67-64), leading to a 71-68 victory for the Bulldogs.
