 BULLDOGS PICK UP FIRST WIN OF 2010 SEASON AT CCSU SATURDAY, 14-10

SMITHFIELD, RI - Led by four goals from seniors Eliza DeMarseilles (Branford, Conn.) and three from Allison Faiola (Billerica, Mass.), the Bryant University women's lacrosse team picked up its first victory of the 2010 season, defeating Central Connecticut 14-10 on Saturday afternoon in New Britain, Conn.

The Bulldogs (1-3, 1-0 NEC) picked up their first win of the season in their Northeast Conference debut. Seven different Bulldogs found the back of the net Saturday as they scored seven in the first and seven in the second.

Seniors DeMarseilles and Faiola led the way with four and three goals, respectively. Three of DeMarseilles came in the first half. Faiola also added two assists on the afternoon.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Filippone (West Babylon, N.Y.) stopped 11 Blue Devil shots. Sophomore Mary Green (Merrick, N.Y.), Lauren Sheridan (Bethpage, N.Y.) and junior Meg Atha (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) all scored two goals for the Bulldogs. Kayla Manzi (Agawam, Mass.) added one for the Black and Gold. Green had three assists for a total of seven points.

The Blue Devils (1-2, 0-1 NEC) picked up three goals from Ashley Perkoski and Betsy Vendel en route to their 10 goal day.

Bryant outshot CCSU 37-29 but lost the ground ball battle 20-15.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead over the Blue Devils when DeMarseilles scored her first goal of the game and third of the season just 26 seconds into action. Green had the assist on DeMarseilles' first tally. The Black and Gold held the 1-0 advantage for the next seven minutes before Central Connecticut got on the board with 22:30 remaining in the half.

DeMarseilles connected on the next two tallies to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead with 18:47 remaining in the half. Green tallied the assist on the second Bryant goal and DeMarseilles scored the third on a free position shot.

Central Connecticut State responded with two goals of its own to tie the action with less than 15 minutes to go in the half.

After trading goals for the next 14:00 of the half, the Bulldogs and Blue Devils found themselves knotted up at 6 apiece with one minute to go in the period. With 51 seconds left to go in the half, Manzi picked up her first goal of the 2010 season to give the Bulldogs a 7-6 lead after one period of play.

Bryant outscored the Blue Devils 7-4 in the second half including a stretch of five straight goals to win their first NEC game, 14-10.

The Black and Gold forced 31 Central Connecticut turnovers.

Bryant returns to action on Tuesday, March 9 when they travel to Clinton, South Carolina to take on the Presbyterian College Blue Hose.
