Filippone scoops up weekly award

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – One day after posting 14 saves against Monmouth in a 8-7 victory, Bryant University women's lacrosse goalie Lauren Filippone (West Babylon, N.Y.) was recognized by the Northeast Conference as the Defensive Player of the Week for her performance over the past seven days.

Filippone delivered in the clutch for Bryant last week, posting a 9.00 goals against average and .620 save percentage in three games.  In total, she recorded 44 saves on the week and also collected 12 ground balls.

In an 11-8 setback to Holy Cross on Tuesday, she established a new single-game school record and NEC single-game season-high with 21 saves, marking the second-highest total in the nation this season.

After turning away nine shots in a 9-5 loss to Mount St. Mary's on Friday, Filippone came back to stop 14 shots in Bryant's one-point win over perennial NEC contender Monmouth on Sunday.  She also scooped up six ground balls against the Hawks in what was the biggest win in the program's short Division I history.

Filippone, who hails from West Babylon, NY, currently ranks second in career saves at Bryant.  She is second in the NEC with 10.44 saves per game and also ranks third in save percentage (.492).

Filippone and the Bulldogs travel to Western Pennsylvania for a weekend road swing at Saint Francis (PA) and Robert Morris. Bryant will face off against the Red Flash on Friday, April 1 at 4 p.m. and wrap up the trip with a noon matchup against the Colonials on Sunday.
