Bulldogs battle Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., Tuesday at 4:05 p.m.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Looking to improve to 2-0 on the road this season, the Bryant University women's lacrosse team travels to Worcester, Mass., to take on Holy Cross on Tuesday at 4:05 p.m.

The Bulldogs (1-1) will attempt to generate more offense on Tuesday after netting just seven goals on 19 shots in the 12-7 home opener loss against UC Davis. The Crusaders (0-3) have allowed just over 16.0 goals per game this season, which could create quality opportunities for the likes of seniors Lauren Descalzo (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and Nicole Britton (Monmouth Beach, N.J.). The fourth-year attackers have tallied four goals each through the first week of the year, as the latter has distributed two assists to lead the team with six points.

Britton also leads Bryant with five draw controls, and Descalzo sits third with three, one fewer than junior defender Carly Cronin (Feeding Hills, Mass.). Cronin and fellow junior defender Molly Martin (Island Park, N.Y.) pace the backline for the Bulldogs with five ground balls and three caused turnovers, respectively.

Freshman Jess DeMeo (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Ali Cardinal (Schenectady, N.Y.) have provided a spark for the Black and Gold off the bench over the first two games, each tallying three points. DeMeo scored three goals last week, and Cardinal posted all three of her points on Friday against the Aggies with two second-half goals and an assist.

After a nine save complete-game effort against the Catamounts in the season opener, sophomore netminder Samantha Santeramo (Wantagh, N.Y.) sent back three shots and allowed seven scores in the home opener on Friday. Second-year goalie Daja Andrews (Lumberton, N.J.) entered late in the first half against UC Davis and logged three more minutes than Santeramo, registering four saves versus five allowed goals.

Holy Cross will attempt to find the back of the net on Tuesday, regardless of who is between the pipes for the Bulldogs, and senior attack Kaitlin Concilio will be relied on to do so. Concilio leads the Crusaders with four goals and three assists for seven points on the young season. The senior started all 18 games for Holy Cross in 2015 and finished first on the team with 19 assists and second in the Patriot League with 44 points.

Junior Tess MacKay, senior Margie Smith and freshman Keely Connors head the eight remaining Holy Cross players that have multiple points this season, each contributing three. Smith appeared in a reserve role and recorded a hat trick for the Crusaders on Saturday against Sacred Heart, while MacKay and Connors have both fired in three scores on the year.

Bryant has clashed with Holy Cross in each of the last five seasons. After the Crusaders won the first three matchups, the Bulldogs have won the past two encounters to trail the series, 3-2, and they are 1-1 in Worcester.
