Britton and DeMeo take home final NEC weekly awards of the season

SMITHFIELD, R.I. –Bryant University women's lacrosse senior attack Nicole Britton (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) and freshman mid Jess DeMeo (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) have been named the Northeast Conference Co-Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league announced Monday.

Britton was a force on offense for Bryant as she tallied eight points on six goals and two assists to help the Bulldogs finish 2-0 on the week and earn a share of the NEC regular season title. The senior recorded a hat trick and an assist in a 13-7 win over LIU Brooklyn on Friday, adding five draw controls and two ground balls. Britton closed the season strong as she netted three more goals, an assist, five draw controls and four ground balls to help secure the Bulldogs right to host the NEC Tournament for the third straight year with a 16-5 triumph over Sacred Heart on Sunday. Britton, a two-time NEC Player of the Week, leads the league with 1.50 assists per game and also ranks fourth with 3.19 points per outing.

Earning her fifth NEC Rookie of the Week honor and fourth in the last five weeks, DeMeo wrapped the regular season with a pair of three-point outings while helping the Bulldogs earn two more wins and a share of the NEC regular season title. Against LIU, DeMeo found the back of the net three times in the 13-7 victory on Friday, marking her fifth hat trick of the year. The freshman finished the weekend with two more goals and a helper in a 16-5 victory over Sacred Heart on Sunday. DeMeo finished the regular season with 32 goals, four short of Bryant's all-time freshman record.

The Bulldogs return to action on Friday when they begin their NEC title defense against Sacred Heart in the first semifinal at 4:00 p.m.
