Langella's five goals lead Bryant in 19-13 win at Stetson

DeLAND, Fla. – Sophomore Natalie Langella (Northport, N.Y.) recorded a career day offensively to lead the attack for the Bryant University women's lacrosse team in a 19-13 victory over Stetson Sunday afternoon at the Athletic Training Center.

Langella recorded career-bests with five goals and six points, while junior Caitlin Breglia (Long Beach, N.Y.) tallied three goals and three assists to move within one goal of 100 for her collegiate career. Bryant has won three of its last four contests including two road wins.

KEY MOMENT

  • Bryant scored seven straight goals midway through the first half to turn a 2-2 tie into a 9-2 advantage.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The teams went back and forth for the first four goals of the contest, as tallies from Breglia and Langella were answered by Stetson to tie the game at two with 21:41 to play in the half.
  • Bryant would score the next seven goals, with two from DeMeo, one from sophomore Caitlin Bolen (Queensbury, N.Y.), back-to-back goals from Langella and two from sophomore Abbi England (Longford Mills, Ontario) putting the Bulldogs up 9-2 with 8:19 remaining in the opening half.
  • Stetson would respond with back-to-back goals to pull within 9-4 at the half.
  • Sophomore Devon Bolen (Queensbury, N.Y.) scored 41 seconds into the second half and Stetson quickly responded with two goals to make it a 10-6 game with 28:28 to play.
  • Breglia and senior Lauren Britton (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) scored the next two goals, and after one from the Hatters, Langella and freshman Alexa Weber (South Windsor, Conn.) added two more to put Bryant ahead 14-7 with 19:40 to play.
  • After a Stetson goal, Bryant extended the lead to 17-8 with Breglia, DeMeo and Langella contributing.
  • The Hatters scored the next three to prompt a Bulldog timeout in a 17-11 game with 10:29 to go.
  • Stetson would pull within five before a Britton free-position goal broke up the run and put Bryant up 18-12 with 7:38 to play.
  • The Hatters would score once more before a DeMeo goal in the final minute brought the game to its final 19-13 score.

  • Bryant improves to 2-0 all-time against Stetson and 3-1 vs. the Atlantic Sun.
  • The 19 goals were a season-high, topping the 17 in the win over Niagara March 9.
  • DeMeo pulled within 12 goals of Bryant's all-time career record of 177 and six points back of the D1 career mark, both held by Lauren Descalzo.
  • Britton moved within 13 draw controls of matching her sister Nicole for Bryant's career mark of 171.
  • James increased her career draw control total to 118, two shy of third in Bryant's Division I era.
