Kaut's Eight Goals Lead Bryant Past Lafayette

SMITHIFIELD, R.I.- Kenna Kaut's career-high eight goals led the Bryant women's lacrosse team to a 17-14 win over Lafayette on Saturday afternoon in the Conaty Indoor Athletic Center. Kaut's mark is one shy of the Division I program record for a single game.

Kaut added an assist to finish with a game-high nine points. She converted on eight of ten shots on goal. Emily Oliver (3 G, 3 A) and Chamberlaine Bell (2 G, 4 A) had six points apiece to help pace the Bulldog offense.

Bryant 17, Lafayette 14

Records: BRY (2-1), LAF (0-3)

Location: Conaty Indoor Athletic Center

How it Happened

Q1: Bell kicked off the scoring with an unassisted goal less than three minutes into the game. The rest of the quarter was low scoring, with Bryant adding two more goals courtesy of Kaut and Skylar Simmonds. The Bulldogs' final two goals of the quarter spurred a 4-0 run that carried over to the second.

Q2: Kaut scored a pair to open the second, including a free-position score less than a minute in. Lafayette responded with two of their own in less than 30 seconds, but four more goals from Kaut and one each from Simmonds and Bell gave Bryant an eight goal lead heading into the half.

Q3: An Oliver goal to start the third made it a 7-0 run for the Bulldogs, but Lafayette began mounting their comeback shortly after. The Leopards scored five times over the final eleven minutes of the quarter, including three in a row after Kaut netted her final score at the 6:39 mark.

Q4: Bryant fought back with goals from Oliver, Simmonds, and Lily Auger to open the fourth, but did not score over the final 8:38. Lafayette made their biggest run to close the game, scoring the final five goals to cut the lead to three. The Bulldog defense held strong over the final minute, stopping multiple Lafayette drives to secure the win.
