Kaut's Overtime Goal Lifts Bryant Past Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn.- Kenna Kaut scored less than a minute into overtime to seal a hard fought 13-12 win for the Bryant women's lacrosse team at Quinnipiac. Kaut scored each of the Bulldogs' final two goals, her only two of the contest.

Bryant had to withstand a massive comeback by Quinnipiac, who outscored the Bulldogs 10-3 over the final three quarters in regulation. Kaut's goal with 2:25 left in the fourth gave Bryant a 12-11 lead, but the game was sent to overtime on a Bobcat goal with 34 seconds remaining in regulation.

Skylar Simmonds and Emily Oliver had four goals apiece to lead the Bulldogs, with Oliver assisting on the game winner.

How it Happened

Q1: Quinnipiac came out of the gates hot, scoring the first goal with less than thirty seconds gone in the first quarter. The Bulldogs responded quickly, with Simmonds and Oliver combining for three goals over the next five minutes to give Bryant a lead they would not relinquish until the very late stages. Oliver and Simmonds put together another big run to close the first, scoring two goals each over the final 5:29.

Q2: Bryant extended the lead to six with a Chamberlaine Bell goal just over a minute into the second. The Bobcats cut the lead back to five shortly thereafter before a six minute scoreless stretch for both teams. Quinnipiac would go on to score three of four over the final 6:39 to cut the lead to three at halftime.

Q3: Defense dominated the third quarter, with each team only netting a pair of goals. Simmonds and Peyton Woodward each scored for Bryant on both ends of a 2-0 run for Quinnipiac in the middle stages of the quarter. Sam Centofante came up clutch in the third for the Bulldogs, saving six of eight shots that came her way to help keep the lead at three.

Q4: Quinnipiac rallied to tie the score with a 3-0 run over the first 6:16 of the fourth. Bryant did not get on the board until the 2:25 mark, when Kaut scored her first of the game to give the Bulldogs a 12-11 lead. The Bobcats rallied back with a late goal to tie the game at 12 and send it to overtime.

OT: Brooke Blanche won the draw at the start of overtime to give Bryant possession, and the Bulldog offense capitalized less than a minute later, and Oliver found a cutting Kaut to send in the go-ahead score.
