Bulldogs' Comeback Falls Short at New Hampshire

DURHAM, N.H.- The Bryant women's lacrosse team dropped its second straight conference game with a 16-12 loss to New Hampshire on Saturday in Durham. The Bulldogs are now 2-3 in America East play with one conference game remaining.

A late comeback attempt came up short as the Bulldogs' 5-0 second half run cut an eight-goal Wildcat lead down to three, but that was as close as they would get. Kenna Kaut and Emily Oliver led the Bryant offensive, scoring three goals and four points apiece.

Records: BRY (6-6, 2-3 AE), UNH (3-7, 2-2 AE)

How it Happened

Q1: Skylar Simmonds scored twice in the opening 5:06 to stake Bryant to an early 2-1 lead, but three straight UNH goals gave the Wildcats a 4-2 advantage with less than six to play in the opening quarter. Oliver netted her first goal of the day with just under four to go in the first, cutting the lead to one.

Q2: UNH used a big second quarter to extend a slim lead, scoring on their second straight free-position to open the period. Peyton Woodward and Margaret Adams each netted goals for Bryant in the quarter, but five more Wildcat goals, including three in a row, made it a 10-5 score going into halftime.

Q3: The Bulldogs found themselves in foul trouble in the third, allowing UNH to score three of their four goals in woman-up opportunities as the Wildcats extended their lead to eight. Kaut was held scoreless on the day until a free-position goal with 3:45 left in the quarter made it a 14-7 score.

Q4: Bryant scored the first four in the fourth quarter, as Oliver, Kaut, and Chamberlaine Bell each found the net while the Bulldog defense held UNH without a goal for the first 12:55 of the period. All in all, the Wildcats went 18 minutes between goals while the Bulldogs came back, but a pair of late scores sealed the deal for the home team.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Kenna Kaut's hat trick was her 21st in 38 career games. Her season average now sits at 4.08 goals per game, and she is one shy of joining Lauren Descalzo and Jess DeMeo as the only players in program history with multiple 50 goal seasons.

  • Kaut is currently seventh in program history with 115 career goals. She needs two more to tie Lauren Sheridan for sixth, and 11 more to tie Haley Bloom for fifth.

  • Emily Oliver now has 28 goals and 26 assists on the season, ranking third in the America East with 4.50 points per game. She is the only player in the league with at least 25 goals and 25 assists.

  • Skylar Simmonds added a pair of goals, raising her career total to 96. She needs four more to become the tenth player in program history to score 100 for their career.

What's next: The Bulldogs will close their non-conference schedule on Wednesday at Stonehill before taking their bye week. They will host first-place UAlbany on April 29 to close the regular season in a game that will potentially determine whether or not they will qualify for the America East Tournament.
