Bulldogs earn first home victory of the season against Sacred Heart

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University women's lacrosse team took the victory over Sacred Heart on Saturday by a score of 16-8 to improve to 2-1 on the young season.

"It was great to see some of our focus points in practice come to fruition in our game today. We had several people step up in critical moments to help us keep momentum. Izzy Katter's impact on the draw is a great example of that."

How it Happened

Quarter 1: The Bulldogs came out strong in the first quarter. After opening Sacred Heart matched the first goal to make it 1-1 the Black and Gold went on a six goal run, making it 7-1.

Quarter 2: Bryant stayed hot in the second and added six more goals to their total, bringing the score to 13-2.

Quarter 3: It was a quiet third quarter for both teams but Sacred Heart had the edge 2-1 in goals.

Quarter 4: Amelia Piercy and Kenna Kaut tallied a pair of goals to open the fourth. Sacred Heart then went on to score four goals in the last eight minutes of the game but it wasn't enough to take the win away from the Bulldogs.

Notes and Notables

  • Senior Kenna Kaut led the Bulldogs with seven goals on the afternoon. Her tally total was one short of her career high, eight goals in a game.
  • Amelia Piercy had a career day as she racked up a career high five goals.
  • Peyton Woodward also recorded a career high on the afternoon as she dished out five assists. The senior also added a goal to bring her season total to five.
  • Emily DeGeorge had two goals while Riley O'Mara also put up a tally for the Black and Gold.
  • O'Mara and freshman Gabriella Constant also handed out an assist each on the day. Constant's assist was the first of her career.
  • The Bulldogs had the upper hand in shots, 34-19, and draw controls, 18-9. Sacred Heart had a slight edge on ground balls, picking up 10 to Bryant's 9.
  • Sam Centofante and Isabella Cardi both appeared in goal in the game. Centofante made five saves while Cardi tallied one.

Bryant makes the trip to Stony Brook on Tuesday (Feb. 20th) to take on the No. 11 ranked Seawolves in a 3:00 pm non-conference matchup.
