Kaut leads Dawgs to win with record breaking performance

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University women's lacrosse team defeated the LIU Sharks 20-9 on the back of a record setting day by senior Kenna Kaut.

Kaut tallied 10 goals on the evening to break the program's all-time single game goals scored record. The previous record of nine goals was set by Alexa Weber in 2020 against UMass Lowell.

Location: Smithfield, RI (Beirne Stadium)

Coach's comments on the team's performance…

"Today was a total team win. From our play in cage with Sam, through our defense and attack, everyone came to play today.

Defensively we had some really big plays from some of the younger players including Jessica Wilhelm and Kaelynn O'Brien, they showed up big time when we needed them. The play from Jessica Tosone, Emily DeGeorge, and Brooke Blanche on the draw made a big difference as well.

Overall, a great win and we're looking forward to traveling to Lafayette and seeing if we can string two good team wins together.

Coach's comments on Kaut's record breaking performance…

"What Kenna did today was crazy. Scoring ten goals is impressive but what is even more impressive is going 10-11 shooting. What's also cool about most of Kenna's goals is that they were assisted. Her teammates were getting her open and getting her the ball. It was nice to have an automatic shooter today and it's a result of what she does in practice."

How it Happened

Quarter 1: LIU took a quick 1-0 lead to open the game but the Bulldogs were not phased and responded with a five goal run over the next eight minutes. LIU scored two more while Emily DeGeorge added a tally to bring the score to 6-3 at the end of one.
Quarter 2: Kaut took it upon herself to crack the game wide open. The co-captain scored five of the Bulldogs' six goals in the quarter to put Bryant up 12-5 at the half.
Quarter 3: The two squads exchanged goals for the first five minutes of the quarter before the Black and Gold scored three straight to end the third up 17-7.
Quarter 4: While a quieter quarter for the Bryant attack, the Bulldogs outscored LIU 3-2 to bring the final score to 20-9.
