DeGeorge and defense lead the way in Dawgs win over Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, CT - The Bryant University women's lacrosse team picked up a hard fought road win against the Quinnipiac Bobcats, 10-4, on Saturday afternoon to improve to 5-3 on the campaign.

Coach's comments on the Bryant defense's role in the game...

"I thought our defense really held us down today, especially down the stretch. Big individual plays were made by Jessica Wilhelm and Kaelynn O'Brien that all led to additional offensive opportunites. We're now looking forward to speninding the week together leading up to our first conference game next Saturday."

How it Happened 

Quarter 1: The Bulldogs struck first with a goal three minutes into the game. In a period with a lot of possession changes, the Black and Gold took a 3-1 lead on the back of two Amelia Piercy goals going into the second.
Quarter 2: The teams exchanged goals in a scrappy second quarter. Freshmen Gabriella Constant and Kolbi Spencer scored in the quarter to bring the score to 5-3.
Quarter 3: After Quinnipiac opened the quarter's scoring with a goal, Bryant responded with two of their own to make it a 6-4 game.
Quarter 4: It was all Bulldogs in the fourth as they scored three unanswered goals to extend their lead and make the final 10-4.

Notes and Notables

  • Emily DeGeorge had another standout day offensively for the Black and Gold. The sophomore tallied four goals and an assist to bring her season totals to 19 goals and seven dishes.
  • The defense allowed a season-best four goals in the game. The fewest they had previously let in was eight against Sacred Heart.
  • Amelia Piercy and Gabby Constant both had two goals on the day while Riley O'Mara and Kolbi Spencer had one apiece.
  • Kenna Kaut and Peyton Woodward had the other two of the team's three assists on the afternoon.
  • DeGeorge also had a team high five draw controls. Jessica Tosone was right behind her though with four in the game.
  • Bryant led in shots (32-21) and draw controls (11-7). The squads tied in ground balls in the contest with both teams scooping up 17 from the turf.
  • Senior goalkeeper Sam Centofante made 10 stops in the game. Centofante was one save short of her season high of 11 saves.

Up Next

The Black and Gold return to Smithfield next Saturday (Mar. 16th) to start conference play against UMBC in an 11:00am matchup. Next week's game will be the team's Morgan's Message game in which they will help break the stigma surrounding mental health in athletics.
