Dawgs take victory over UMBC to open conference slate

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University women's lacrosse team had a lockdown second half defensively and a strong fourth quarter offensively to open America East play with a 15-10 victory over UMBC on Saturday afternoon.

Game Information
Bryant 15, UMBC 10
Records: Bryant (6-3, 1-0), UMBC (5-4, 0-1)
Location: Smithfield, RI (Bryant Track & Turf Complex)

Coach's comments on the victory...
"Today was a total team win. We had a full week of preparation going into UMBC. We know how good of a team they are and how imporant of a game it would be. Little plays like draw controls, ground balls, and chases behind especially by player like Kenna [Kaut], Kaelynn O'Brien, and Jessica Wilhelm really came up big in the end. The way we held our mental and emotional composure throughout the game was a edge for us and something that I'm really proud of."

How it Happened

Quarter 1: The opening quarter was a back and forth affair but Bryant managed to gain a slight 4-3 edge.
Quarter 2: It was a chippy second quarter, as a whopping eight cards were issued in the period. Scoring wise however, it was a similar story to the first with the teams each scoring four goals to make the halftime score 8-7.
Quarter 3: UMBC had its only quarter goal advantage in the third, out scoring the Black and Gold 2-1 in a quarter.
Quarter 4: Kenna Kaut and the Bulldogs took matters into their own hands in the fourth, scoring six goals to UMBC's one to pull away and get the victory. Kaut had three goals and three draw controls in the quarter to help give Bryant the momentum to finish the game strong.
