Bulldogs Win Fourth Straight 4-1 over SCSU

Smithfield, R.I. -  With the regular season winding down, the Bryant Women's Soccer team is catching fire at the perfect time, as they won its fourth in a row, 4-1 over Southern Connecticut State Saturday morning at Bulldog Stadium

Senior captain Casey Grange (Methuen, Mass.) got the Bulldogs going early, taking a perfect pass from Danielle Malta (Bethel, Conn.) and scoring on a partial breakaway in the sixth minute. The goal was Grange's team-record 15th of the season and 36th of her career.

Freshman Holly Tyser (Somers, Conn.) made it 2-0 in the 37th minute off a Grange feed in the box, and banging it off the post and into the net, past Owls goaltender Stephanie Lyon, for her second tally of the season.

The Owls got back in the game, just 35 seconds into the second half, when Brianna Ondriezek got behind the defense and beat Jessica Neales (Swansea, Mass.) for her first collegiate goal.

The Bulldogs were the recipients of an own goal in the 63rd minute, as Grange's shot was deflected off an Owl defender and into the net past Stephanie McGinley, who came in for Lyon at the start of the second half.

With just over three minutes, freshman Erin Szewc (Ellington, Conn.) got on the  board, scoring her first collegiate goal from just five yards out, with Lauren Childers (Franklin, Mass.) registering the assist.

Neales stopped six shots, while improving her record to 5-2 on the season, as Bryant outshot SCSU 10-8.

The Bulldogs, fifth in the NE-10 Standings, (12-6-1, 8-4-1 NE-10) will host Merrimack next Friday (7 p.m.) on the Bulldog Turf Complex in their regular season finale. Before the game, the seniors will be honores as part of Senior Night.
