WOMEN'S SOCCER PICKS UP FIRST WIN IN 2-1 VICTORY OVER HARTFORD

SMITHFIELD, RI- The Bryant University women's soccer team can breathe a little easier after picking up their first win of the 2009 campaign in a 2-1 victory over the University of Hartford this afternoon at Bulldog Stadium.

The Bulldogs (1-2) picked up the game-winning goal off a skillful header by sophomore Kaitlyn Hinck (Bow, N.H.) in the 69th minute of play. Senior captain Molly Wallace (Sandwich, Mass.) sent a free kick into Hinck who flicked the ball into the right side netting of the goal. Junior defender Steph Del Mistro (East Williston, N.Y.) netted the game-tying goal earlier in the 32nd minute by beating the keeper to the left side.

Senior goalkeeper Katie Mitchell (Deer Park, N.Y.) came up big when she needed to, including two first half breakaways, both of which Mitchell was able to sprawl and make a diving save. She allowed only one goal and made seven stops. Midfielder Sarah Donovan (Storrs, Conn.) took a team high six shots and put two on net.

The Bulldogs outshot the Hawks 18-11 and finished ahead on corners by a 5-2 margin.

The team returns to action Friday, Sept. 11 when they host the University of Maine at 7 p.m.
