BRYANT WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO FAIRFIELD 1-0 IN SEASON OPENER

Box Score

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – In a tightly contested game with limited scoring opportunities, the Bryant University women's soccer team opened its 2010 season with a 1-0 loss to Fairfield at a rainy Bulldog Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Both teams fought hard to control the ball and open up the field, but the slippery playing conditions made it difficult for either team to generate a consistent attack.

The Stags registered the only goal of the match in the 59th minute when junior Jasmin Corniel (Yonkers, N.Y.) chased down a long pass from forward Casey Frobey (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and tucked it past the dive of Bulldog keeper Lauren Viverito (Dayton Park, N.J).

The second half featured a stronger scoring threat by the Bulldogs, who recorded a total of five shots in the game, but they were unable to break the Fairfield defense. Viverito recorded five saves for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, August 27 as they host Northeastern University at 4:00 pm.
