WOMEN'S SOCCER EARNS OVERTIME VICTORY OVER SAINT PETER'S, 1-0

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's soccer team seems to have a flare for the dramatic as of late as sophomore Alex Bengston (Andover, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal in the second minute of overtime to beat Saint Peter's College, 1-0 Sunday afternoon. The thriller came just two days after Bryant's first win of the season when freshman Ari Goldberg (East Bridgewater, Mass.) scored early in overtime to knock off NJIT, 2-1 on Friday night.

Both teams had chances to score throughout regulation but the tempo of the game was controlled by the backlines and keepers of each club. Freshman Lauren Viverito (Dayton Park, N.J.) made seven saves in net for the Bulldogs until she was relieved by Kelsi Jacob (Mahwah, N.J.) at the start of the first overtime period. Caitlin Hoffer recorded four saves for Saint Peter's, which dropped to 0-4 on the season.

Neither team was able to break the tie in regulation, but in the second minute of the first overtime stanza Bengston took advantage of an open ball in front of the Peahan goal and tucked in the game-winner.

The Bryant women's soccer team, which improved to 2-2 on the season, took seven shots in the contest while Saint Peter's recorded 11. The Peahen's also won the battle for corner kicks by a margin of 3-2.

The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, Sept. 10 when they host Lafayette at 4:00 p.m.
