BRYANT WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS 1-0 AT NEW HAMPSHIRE

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Despite coming off a riveting 2-2 comeback tie against Holy Cross on Wednesday, the Bryant University women's soccer team fell at New Hampshire, 1-0 Sunday afternoon.

Bryant fought hard throughout the match but a first half goal by the Wildcats proved to be too much to overcome as the Bulldogs lost their first road game of the season, dropping to 2-5-1 overall. New Hampshire snapped a four-game losing streak to improve its record to 3-4-2.

The game opened with neither team able to gain any sort of consistency on offense until Wildcat Brooke Duchaney scored in the 38th minute. The junior finished off a cross from sophomore Chelsea Kuss into the middle of the net for the 1-0 New Hampshire advantage. Junior Stephanie Gilkenson was also credited with an assist for setting up the game-winning goal.

The Bulldog backline stepped up for the remainder of the match as they prevented the Wildcats from recording an insurance goal. Kelsi Jacob (Mahwah, N.J.) stopped two in between the pipes for Bryant including an impressive dive on the ball rolling on the goal line late in the game to keep her team within a goal. New Hampshire keeper Erica Correa saved three in the game to pick up the win.

Sophomore Katy MacAndrew (Coventry, R.I.) and freshman Ari Goldberg (East Bridgewater, Mass.) led the Bulldogs with two shots each while the Wildcats outshot the visitors, 13-11. In the game, Bryant managed to take seven corner kicks but could not find the back of the net.

The Bulldogs return to the pitch on Sept. Wednesday, Sept. 22 when they play host to Albany at 4:00 p.m.
