Women's soccer shut out at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Bryant University women's soccer team was shut out, 1-0, against Holy Cross Wednesday evening in Worcester, Mass.  The Bulldogs fall back to .500 on the season at 3-3-1, while the Crusaders improve to 2-4 overall.

The Black and Gold were stonewalled by netminder Carly McCabe, who totaled eight saves over the course of the game to lead the home team to victory.  Kelsi Jacob (Mahwah, N.J.) garnered a pair of saves between the pipes for Bryant, going relatively untested during the evening until the waning moments of regulation.

With 43 seconds remaining in the second half, Gina Righini headed home the game-winner on a cross from Lauren Wright from the left side of the eighteen.  The pair had found themselves on an odd-man rush after countering a Bryant scoring chance, and Righini was able to redirect the ball past Jacob.

Bryant senior forward Kaitlyn Hinck (Bow, N.H.) came closest to getting Bryant on the board in the second half, lofting a shot from 25 yards out with just over 30 minutes remaining that beat McCabe high, but just hit the crossbar to keep the match scorless.  She and junior Regan Marin (Bedord, N.Y.) led all players with a game-high three shots attempted each.

The Bulldogs held an impressive 16-5 advantage in total shots attempted, but McCabe turned aside chance after chance, with four saves in each half.  Bryant also led the game in corner kicks by a 7-1 margin, but could not break through.

The Black and Gold will return to the friendly confines of Bulldog Stadium this Sunday, Sept. 18, when they welcome the University of New Hampshire for an afternoon contest.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
