Women's soccer takes on FDU Sunday

FDU TWITTER UPDATES

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Looking to snap a two-game losing streak and get back to .500 on the season, the Bryant University women's soccer travels to New Jersey for its lone competition of the weekend, taking on Fairleigh Dickinson in Northeast Conference play on Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (5-6-3, 1-3-1 NEC) are coming off a winless weekend against Long Island and Sacred Heart, while the Knights (4-8-1, 1-5) have lost three straight, including a loss on Friday against Sacred Heart.  Bryant owns a 3-3-1 mark away from Bulldog Stadium this season, while FDU has won all of its four contests at home.

During its last outing, Bryant outshot Sacred Heart, 15-13, but could not overcome back-to-back goals in a six-minute span late in the first half against the Pioneers, while Sydney Judkins made three saves to blank the Bulldogs, 2-0, on Oct. 9 at Bulldog Stadium.  Before that, Bryant made a Friday afternoon trip down to Brooklyn, N.Y., where Long Island was able to ring up four first-half goals and kept the Bulldogs in check during the second stanza to hand Bryant a 4-1 defeat.

Most recently, the Knights traveled to Fairfield, Conn., dropping a 4-1 decision to the Pioneers on Friday evening.  Sacred Heart scored four second-half goals to secure the victory.  FDU sophomore Elizabeth Langer reeled off the Knights' only shot on goal in the game in the 26th minute.

Last weekend, the Knights were outscored by a 7-1 margin in losses to Wagner and Mount St. Mary's.  With that goal, the Knights were able to top their 2010 total for goals in a season, as FDU has found the back of the net seven times this year.  The Knights have maintained a .533 shot on goal percentage (SOG%), while holding opponents to 98 shots on goal in 185 shot attempts (.519 SOG%).

The Knights are led by Rashidah Sherman, whose three goals and nine points pace the team on the offensive end.  Lisa-Marie Curtis and Langer have also tallied two goals during the 2011 campaign.  Sage Dovale and Stephanie Tanzi have split time in net, with the former seeing more action, earning eight starts and appearing in nine games this year while posting a team-best 1.70 goals-against average, and boasting a .732 save percentage to go with a 3-4-1 record.
