Bulldogs drop first of road trip

WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS, 4-0, TO TALENTED TIGERS

SMITHFIELD, R.I – The Bryant University women's soccer team fell to Colorado College, 4-0, on Friday night in the first of two games on their Colorado road trip.

Paced by three first half goals, the Tigers (2-1-3) were too much for the Bulldogs to handle as Bryant drops to 3-3. Senior Hannah Peterson led the home team with two goals in the first 45 minutes.

Peterson netted her first score at the 15 minute mark off a helper from sophomore Kaeli Vandersluis to give her team the early 1-0 advantage.

The Tigers tallied their next two goals in an 80 second span to increase their advantage to 3-0. Peterson found the back of the net for the second time in the 35th minute and was followed up shortly after by junior Madison Whitehead who registered the third goal of the half for Colorado College in the 36th minute.

The fourth and final goal of the match came in the 87th minute when freshman Sam Curran netted her first goal of the year, ending the game, 4-0, in favor of Colorado College.

"They were just better than us," said Bryant head coach Chris Flint. "In all phases of the game, and the score really does reflect how we played tonight."

The Bulldogs did have one scoring chance in the final ten minutes of the game, however, junior Shana Follette (Plymouth, Mass.) saw her attempt ricochet off the post, denying Bryant a chance to register a goal.

"We didn't sustain any type of possession in their half of the field," added Flint. "And they moved the ball extremely well.

Like I said before, [Colorado College] is the best team we have played so far, and if we want to compete with these types of teams we need to start getting used to playing at a higher level."

The Tigers outshot the Bulldogs 20-4 in the contest, as Bryant was held scoreless for the first time all year. Goalkeeper Lauren Viverito (Dayton, N.J.) recorded eight saves in her sixth start of the season, while her opposition, Hanna Berglund, stopped both Bryant shots on goal.

The Black and Gold will get a chance to go home with a .500 record this road trip when they head to Air Force on Sunday for a 2 p.m. match.
