Bulldogs open NEC play with W

WOMEN'S SOCCER MAKES IT THREE-STRAIGHT WITH 2-0 WIN AT WAGNER

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's soccer team picked up its first Northeast Conference win of the year on the road at Wagner Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (6-4, 1-0 NEC) have now won three-straight thanks to two second-half goals by senior Regan Marin (Bedford, N.Y.) and junior Shana Follette (Plymouth, Mass.). The Seahawks fall to 3-7 on the season, dropping their first NEC contest.

After outshooting their opponents, 12-5, in the first half, the Black and Gold were unable to find the back of the net through 45 minutes. In the 65th minute, Follette received a pass from freshman Rachael Ivanicki (Colts Neck, N.J.) and blasted a shot from just outside the box past Wagner keeper Maureen Vetter to give Bryant the 1-0 advantage.

Less than four minutes later, Ivanicki earned her second helper of the match, assisting on Marin's score from 25 yards out, putting the contest out of reach in favor of the Bulldogs.

"This is a great way to start NEC play," said Bryant head coach Chris Flint. "It was just a solid team effort all the way around, with everyone contributing."

The Bulldogs outshot their opponents, 25-14, including nine shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Lauren Viverito (Dayton, N.J.) stopped four Seahawk chances en route to her second shutout of the year. Vetter had seven saves in the game, including five the first half.

"Keeping the opponent off the board is always out goal," added Flint. "Lauren and the back four played exceptionally well in a tough road environment"

Bryant will have one day before their next match on the road at Monmouth on Sunday at 1 p.m.

"Monmouth is always in the mix," said Flint. "And if we want to be one of those teams, we need to play well on the road."

The Bulldogs will have their opportunity come Sunday as they look to make it four-straight.
