WOMEN'S SOCCER IMPROVES TO 2-2 IN NEC LED BY FOLLETTE'S THREE-POINT DAY

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Paced by a three-point effort from junior forward Shana Follette (Plymouth, Mass.), the Bryant University women's soccer team defeated Central Connecticut State, 2-1, on the road Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 7-6 overall (2-2 in NEC). The Blue Devils fall to 1-9-1, still looking for their first NEC victory of the year.

Bryant got on the scoreboard first at the 13 minute mark when Carolyn Giuliano (Wethersfield, Conn.) found the back of the net to give the Bulldogs the early 1-0 advantage. Off a corner, Follette collected the ball in the box and fed Giuliano in front of the net for her second marker of 2012.

The Blue Devils were able to equalize in the 21st minute when Kerriann Welch delivered a pass to Jewel Robinson who found the back of the net from the right corner of the box.

In the 58th minute, Follette gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 advantage when she scored her fourth goal of 2012 in what proved to be the game winning goal.

"This was a huge win for us," said Bryant head coach Chris Flint. "To go on the road and pick up a win to split the weekend very big."

"I'm extremely proud of the girls," added Flint. "Coming off the loss on Friday, our depth was a big factor today with everyone contributing."

Despite the 2-1 final, the Bulldogs were outshot by the home team, 20-9, with Bryant keeper Lauren Viverito (Dayton, N.J.) making seven saves in the winning effort.

The Black and Gold will head home for a week of practice before hosting two NEC opponents over the weekend.

"It's vital to start October off on a good note", said Flint. "We are definetly happy to be home over the weekend and it's important we take advantage of the two games on our home field."
