Woods tallies first career goal in 3-1 loss

WOODS'S FIRST CAREER GOAL NOT ENOUGH FOR BULLDOGS

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Freshman Kianna Woods's (Stafford Springs, Conn.) first career pushed the Bryant University women's soccer team even in the first half but Rider scored a pair of second half goals on its way to a 3-1 victory Friday night at Ben Cohen Field.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 0-3 on the year. The Broncs improved to 1-1 with markers at the 47:38 and 68:07 mark of the second half.

Playing in just her third career game, Woods provided the Black and Gold with their first goal of the year as she headed home a corner kick from senior Ari Goldberg (East Bridgewater, Mass.) at the 40:47 mark of the first half. The goal tied the game at 1-1 and gave Goldberg her first assist of the season in her first game.

Despite being outshot 8-4 in the second half, Rider was able to grab the victory with a pair of goals. Michelle Iacono potted her first goal of the season to break the 1-1 tie and Jennifer Meier's second goal of the game in the 69th minute made it 3-1. Meier gave the Broncs a 1-0 lead as she knocked home a loose ball in the 13th minute.

The Bulldogs held a 17-10 shot advantage and an 8-1 lead in corner kicks but could not convert. Kaylan Conrad (Avon, Conn.) made three saves in net for the Black and Gold.

Bryant will face Delaware State on Sunday, September 1. Kick off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
